Statement from Denise Forte, interim CEO of The Education Trust, on the Fiscal Year 2023 House Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill

WASHINGTON — “The House Labor-HHS-Education bill advanced by the House Appropriations Committee yesterday builds on the progress made by the American Rescue Plan Act and the FY22 omnibus spending deal. It increases investments in keystone educational programs such as Title I and the Pell Grant, while also doing more to strengthen and diversify the nation’s educator workforce, increase access to financial aid and student supports, and respond to students’ mental health needs.

“This broad swath of increased investments will particularly benefit Black, Latino, and Native students, and students from low-income backgrounds, who continue to struggle in the face of inequities exacerbated by the pandemic. The Education Trust urges Congress and the President to act on behalf of underserved students and enact this bill.”
